Multi-tenancy (multi-tenant SaaS)
One application and one deploy serving many client companies, with each client’s data kept apart.
Clients can share tables with a client column, get a schema each in one database, or a separate database each; AWS calls these pool, bridge and silo, and many products mix them. Shared tables are the cheapest to run because a release is one database update; separate databases suit clients whose contracts require them but multiply updates and backups. Moving from a separate copy per company to one multi-tenant product usually does not require a rewrite.
