Free tool

If you disappeared tomorrow, could anyone run your system?

The runbook generator is a free tool by Przemysław Zalewski, an independent engineer, that turns your answers into a runbook for a system you built yourself.

You built the CRM, the route planner or the order system yourself, maybe with Claude or Lovable, and the company now runs on it. Answer a few questions and get a RUNBOOK.md: where it runs, how to deploy, where the backups are, who has the logins. Everything stays in your browser.

Why a runbook

A system that lives in one head stops when that head is on holiday. A runbook is the cheapest insurance there is: one page that tells the next person where things are and how to change them without breaking production.

What to do with it

Put RUNBOOK.md in the root of the repository, next to the code. Update it after every bigger change. Give it to whoever helps you, before they need it.

What this tool does not do

It does not connect to your systems, does not check anything and does not grade anything. It turns your answers into a document and lists the gaps you marked yourself.

Questions

What is a runbook?

A short document that tells someone else how to run a system: where it lives, how to deploy a change, how to undo it, where the backups are and who to call.

Does anything I type leave my computer?

No. The document is built in your browser and your answers are kept only in this browser’s storage. Analytics records that a runbook was generated and how many fields were filled, never what you typed.

I built it with Lovable or Bolt. Does this apply?

Yes, especially. If the code exists only inside the builder, the first item on your list will be to export it to a repository your company owns.

Who keeps it up to date?

Whoever changes the system. If that is you alone and the company depends on it, it is worth having a second person who knows it. That is the monthly care I offer.

Want a second person who knows your system?

I take over the runbook, the deploys and the backups, add modules when you need them, and pair with you so you keep building. A fixed number of hours a month.
