What I cost and why

One base rate, three bands by difficulty, no minimum, no retainer. The rate and the scope are agreed in writing before any paid work starts. If I finish early, you pay less.

Three bands, one base rate

The base is the standard band: $45, €40 or 180 zł an hour. Simple work is 20% less, complex work is 20% more. I invoice in USD, EUR or PLN, whichever is easier for you; we agree on the currency with the scope. Polish prices follow the exchange rate, rounded up to the nearest 10 zł, and are revised by hand.

What counts as simple, standard or complex

Simple $36 · €32/h

base minus 20%

A clear ticket, a stack I know, no risk to production, one person who decides.

For example:

  • A bug with a known cause
  • A page or a form on an existing site
  • A small integration with good docs
  • Dependency updates with tests in place

Standard $45 · €40/h

the base rate

Work inside a live product: features, reviews, migrations with tests, the usual day of a senior engineer.

For example:

  • A feature from scope to production
  • Code review and architecture decisions
  • A migration rehearsed on staging
  • Analytics, dashboards, tracking plans

Complex $54 · €48/h

base plus 20%

High stakes or high friction: I take responsibility for decisions, and mistakes are expensive.

For example:

  • Data recovery and incident work
  • Payments, billing webhooks, multi-tenant security
  • Legacy without tests, regulated industries
  • Many stakeholders and organizational knots

I propose the band when I write the scope. You see the reasoning before you say yes. If a task turns out harder than either of us thought, I tell you before the cap is reached and we decide together.

Billing rules

  • Scope and rate in writing first. After a free 30-minute call or an email exchange you get the scope, the band and a cap in writing within 24 hours. Paid work starts only after your written yes.
  • A spending cap per task. Every task has a ceiling. I never cross it without asking. You can set a monthly cap too and I will plan around it.
  • You pay for hours worked. Hourly, with a log you can read. Finished early: you pay less. The cap is a ceiling, never a target.
  • No minimum, no retainer. Start and stop at any time. Ad-hoc help without a monthly fee is fine. Agencies that want a monthly package of hours can have one.
  • Weekends are the exception. I work Monday to Friday. Weekend work happens only when we agree on it beforehand, at twice the rate.
  • At most eight hours a day. I do not sell more hours than I can deliver well. For clients I already work with I keep room for an urgent fix even when my calendar is full.
  • Rates never change mid-scope. An agreed scope keeps its rate until it is done. New rates come with 30 days’ notice.

What is free

  • The 30-minute call, with no company deck.
  • Questions by email before we start, as many as you need.
  • The written scope, the band proposal and the cap.
  • The first hour of work if I reply late. That is my [pledge](#pledge).
  • An honest “not a fit” with a pointer to someone who is.
  • Admin: invoicing, the time log, tools I already know. I bill for work on your product, nothing else.

AI agents are included

I work with coding agents under rules, and that is included in the rate. They run on my business accounts at my cost, or on yours if you prefer. There is no separate line for tokens. The cost estimator shows how big the multiplier is and what it depends on.

If your policy requires code written by hand, say so. I follow it, and the estimate grows, sometimes up to ten times, because the hours do.

For these I give a range up front and a fixed number in writing within 24 hours after the call. The configurator shows the hours and the earliest start.

How invoicing works

I invoice from Poland as a VAT-registered business, in USD, EUR or PLN, whichever is easier for you, monthly or per task. We agree on the currency with the scope. Payment by bank transfer within 14 days.

  • Company in Poland. Net amount plus 23% VAT.
  • Business in the EU with a VAT number. Reverse charge: no VAT on my invoice, you account for it locally.
  • Business outside the EU (UK, US, South Africa and the rest). No Polish VAT. The invoice carries a reverse-charge note; whether anything is due under your local rules is a question for your accountant, and usually the answer is no.
  • What I need. The legal name, address and tax number of the entity that pays. Bank fees on your side are yours, on my side mine.

Why this is worth it

You get a senior who decides and delivers, with 15+ years of shipping software and nine in TypeScript, React and Node.js. Agents under rules, a human review on every pull request, code in your repository from day one, numbers in PostHog, and a handover someone outside the project can run from. The rules are on how I work.

FAQ

Questions about pricing

Do you charge for the first call?
No. The 30-minute call is free, and so are the questions by email before we start. Paid work begins only after a written scope and your written yes.
Fixed price or hourly?
Hourly with a cap for most work. Fixed price for the packages with a clear scope: a review, an audit, a trial, a one-page site. In both cases you know the ceiling before we start. What is scope creep explains why the cap matters.
Do I pay extra for AI tokens?
No. Agents run on my business accounts and the cost sits inside the rate. If you want them on your accounts, you pay the provider directly and we note it in the scope.
Can I set a monthly limit?
Yes. Tell me the number and I plan the work around it. I never bill above a cap without asking first.
What happens if you finish early?
You pay for the hours worked. The cap is a ceiling. The written scope says what “done” means, so there is no argument about it.
Do you work on weekends or at night?
Only by agreement, and weekends cost twice the rate. I build systems that do not wake anyone up at night. See how I work for hours and response times.
Which currency and exchange rate?
USD, EUR or PLN, whichever is easier for you. Each band has its own price in each currency: $45, €40 or 180 zł at the base. The PLN figures are rounded up to 10 zł and revised by hand. An agreed scope keeps its rate and currency until it is done.
What is your rate in euros?
€32 an hour for simple work, €40 at the base, €48 for complex work, net. Businesses in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and the rest of Europe get an invoice in EUR; EU businesses with a VAT number get it under the reverse charge, without VAT.
How does this compare with an agency?
An agency rate covers margin, management and people on the bench. Mine covers one senior who talks to you and does the work. The page about hiring from Poland has the comparison table with sources.

Let’s find out in 30 minutes

A free 30-minute call. You bring the problem, I bring questions. Want a number first? The configurator shows hours, a price range and the start date.

If I am the wrong person I will say so on the call and point you to someone better.

or write to ciunkos@gmail.com

After you book: a calendar invite, then the call, then the scope in writing within 24 hours. Nothing else to fill in.

My pledge

  • Reply within 24 hours. I reply within 24 hours on working days, personally, not a bot. Weekend messages: by Monday noon.
  • Late means free. If I am late, the first hour of work is free. You do not have to ask.
  • Scope in writing within 24 hours. A free 30-minute call with no company deck, then the scope and the price in writing within 24 hours. You decide.
  • The person who does the work. You talk to the person who does the work. No sales layer, no handoff.
  • Follow-up only with news. I follow up only when I have something new for you. Never a "did you see my offer".
  • Honest "not a fit". If I am not the right person, I say so on the call and point you to someone who is.
