EU AI Act
The EU regulation on AI systems: bans some uses, regulates high-risk ones, and sets transparency and AI literacy duties.
According to the European Commission, it entered into force on August 1, 2024. Prohibited practices and AI literacy apply from February 2, 2025, rules for general-purpose models from August 2, 2025, and most of the Act from August 2, 2026. After the 2026 AI Omnibus, high-risk rules for areas such as hiring and education apply from December 2, 2027. Most business uses, such as drafting, search or a support chatbot, fall under transparency duties rather than high-risk rules.
